Raleigh, N.C., Aug. 9, 2018 – Inmates to Entrepreneurs, a nonprofit that provides free entrepreneurship education and mentorship to people with criminal records, announced today that it is expanding its programming to the Triad.
Inmates to Entrepreneurs, headquartered in Raleigh, was founded by Sageworks Founder and entrepreneurship advocate Brian Hamilton in 1992. Since then, Brian and the program’s mentors have taught entrepreneurship to thousands of men and women in more than 50 correctional institutions. The organization’s program offerings grew in 2017 to include a free eight-week course covering modules on entrepreneurship essentials like marketing, finance, and sales. The eight-week course is offered in Raleigh, Charlotte, and Wilmington, and is launching in Greensboro next month. It is open to anyone with a criminal record, not just those who have been incarcerated.
Brian Hamilton, founder of Inmates to Entrepreneurs said, “Our long-term vision is to create a volunteer program with national scope where people with a criminal background who have subsequently started businesses and who feel passionate about helping others in their shoes can offer mentoring. We believe that the second chance offered in owning a business is a powerful force against a return to old habits or mistakes. We look forward to expanding to Greensboro and are encouraged by the outpouring of interest in the program we’ve already seen from the Triad community.”
The expansion of the program comes as a result of increased demand for support and mentoring from people throughout the state. Inmates to Entrepreneurs will host its Greensboro Launch Event on Aug. 23 at 1400 Battleground Avenue in Greensboro. The event will be an introduction of Inmates to Entrepreneurs to anyone in the Triad community interested in learning about the program. Subsequently, the Greensboro eight-week course will begin on September 6 at the Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship in Greensboro. Those interested in signing up for the free course can apply online.
