Community Spotlight: The Brian Hamilton Foundation

As a franchise law firm in Charlotte, our team often looks for ways we can further help entrepreneurs both in our community and throughout the U.S. Recently, we discovered the Brian Hamilton Foundation, an organization right here in North Carolina that shares our passion for entrepreneurship.

The Brian Hamilton Foundation is a nonprofit organization providing free entrepreneurship education resources for people of all backgrounds. Whether you are a current business owner or looking to start one, the Brian Hamilton Foundation has resources to help you become a successful entrepreneur. This foundation believes in providing skills and tools for someone to become not only financially stable but continue to climb the economic ladder.

Over 25 years ago, Brian Hamilton felt compelled to speak at prisons on the benefits of entrepreneurship for individuals with criminal records after going into a prison with a friend. That friend was one of his clients at the time, Rev. Robert Harris, who led Bible studies there. After Brian spoke to one of the incarcerated men during a break about his plans to look for a job after he got out, and foreseeing the challenges he would have to overcome, Brian realized that teaching about business ownership might be the answer. Brian later came to start the Brian Hamilton Foundation and Inmates to Entrepreneurs, a program that Franchise.Law is now proud to support.

“It was a no-brainer for us,” said Attorney Jonathan Barber. “As entrepreneurs ourselves, Jason and I believe strongly in the power of starting a business and we understand how important it can be for changing one’s life. We are excited to partner with an organization like the Brian Hamilton Foundation that not only shares our passion, but also works just as hard as we do to help others achieve their dreams.”

In addition to Inmates to Entrepreneurs, the foundation also provides other resources geared toward other demographics, such as the Military Transition Readiness program that helps veterans develop the skills needed to launch a business. They also have Starter U, a free online course available to anyone, teaching the basics of starting a business, as well as Starter High – Youth Entrepreneurship, which is developed specifically for helping young entrepreneurs.

Our firm looks forward to supporting the Brian Hamilton Foundation and its multiple programs that help current and aspiring entrepreneurs in our community and throughout the country. To learn more about their Inmates to Entrepreneur program, head over to our Inmates to Entrepreneurs page.
