GREENSBORO, N.C. —
The mission of ‘Inmates to Entrepreneurs’ is to assist formerly incarcerated individuals in starting their own business and engaging in entrepreneurship by providing resources, mentorship and hope.
The program will launch in Greensboro Thursday night. It includes a free eight week course and mentor upon successful completion of the program.
Many of the mentors were previously incarcerated as well.
The creators said the program gives participants confidence and has a positive impact on the community.
“People who start businesses who have been incarcerated are more likely to hire people who have been incarcerated. It makes total sense. So, it’s a beautiful sort of ecosystem that we’re trying to set up,” Brian Hamilton, co-chairman, said.
The program is offered three times a year.
